A Passion for Engineering: How Josua Mashiloane Grew His Consulting Engineering Company

Josua Mpho Mashiloane, a former student achiever Artisan of the Clean Heat Academy and the Executive Chairman and Investor of Mashiloane (Pty) Ltd Trading Engineers and Project Managers, began his journey to success in Mpumalanga, growing up in the city’s townships during education.

A visit to Masimong & Liviero Building in Johannesburg in 2013 sparked Mashiloane’s dream to pursue his Civil Engineering career and at then in 2017 he establish his own company. This was Mashiloane’s first introduction to the consulting engineer profession.

Starting a company involved the challenge of finance, which Mashiloane overcame by starting small with a home office, obtaining key projects from the newly formed Independent Development Trust, managing cash flow, learning how to manage a business and working in partnership. Mashiloane also had to ensure that he could deliver on his responsibilities by gaining as much experience as possible to complement his qualifications, build a sustainable business and earn trust.

Mashiloane (Pty) Ltd Trading Engineers, the widening of the Mpumalanga N12 & N4 entrance Roads, Durban projects (IDT) included Additions & Upgrades for Dingukwazi Secondary School Joint Venture TSSN Carriers (Pty) Ltd, First major Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Medals project awarded from the City of Ekurhuleni, the OR Tambo International Airport, Joint Venture Motheo Construction Group Bulk Services at Tembisa Extension 25 mega -project for the (City of Ekurhuleni) the Development Bank of Sothern Africa (DBSA) and subsequent relocation of the Reticulation Pump Station for Eastern Cape. R536 Road between Hazyview and Mkhuhlu Malubane Street Phase 1 (Bushbuckridge Municipality) Joint Venture Malo Contractor. It also worked on Gauteng Freeway upgrades prior to 2018, the Lanseria International Airport, Malibongwe Drive.

Josua Mashiloane as the Executive Chairman and Investment Analyst in 2018. He holds a Trade Test (Bricklayer) and Civil Engineering from the Tshwane South College. Josua Mashiloane is currently studying towards a Higher Certificate in Project Management at the UP.
In 2020, Mashiloane (Pty) Ltd secured Khato Civils the Design, Supply, Installation, Construction and Commissioning of Mmamashia Water Treatment Plant for client Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) in Rupublic of Botswana and the Design, Supply, Installation, Construction and Commissioning of Tap Water from Salima to Lilongwe for client Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) in Republic of Malawi.

Mashiloane (Pty) Ltd secured Concor Infrastructure the Design, Construction and Handover of the Infrastructure for the MeerKAT Project, near Carnarvon in the Northern Cape for client and secured Raubex Construction the Upgrading of National Route 2 from Kwamashu Interchange, section 25 to Umdloti River Bridge, section 26 including the Upgrade of National Route 3, Section 2 from Cato-Ridge to Dardanelles for client South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL).

Josua Mashiloane has the primary duty of providing researched information to ensure that investment portfolios are well managed and that potential investment opportunities are highlighted properly.

In 2022, the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) awarded (4) four projects on behalf of SANRAL worth more than R10 billion.
The projects are:
1. Mtentu Bridge: R3.428bn (Eastern Cape Province)
China Communications Construction Company & Mota Engil Construction South Africa JV
2. EB Cloete Interchange Improvements: R4.302bn (KwaZulu-Natal Province)
Base Major Construction & China State Construction Engineering Corporation JV
3. R56 Matatiele Rehabilitation: R1.057bn (Eastern Cape Province)
Down Touch Investments JV Mashiloane Trading (Pty) Ltd
4. Ashburton Interchange: R1.814bn (KwaZulu-Natal Province)
